Review of 2019

Last year the Open Access Group worked with 30 young people.

8 young people achieved their Bronze Award, 7 their Silver Award, and 7 achieved their Gold Award. We currently have four young people with their places booked to receive their Golds at the Palace!

We ran six expeditions in 2019: 2 Bronze, 2 Silver and a Gold practice and qualifier. There were 12 training days and a canoeing session with West Lancs Guides.

10 young people from Blackpool went on an Outward Bound residential at Ullswater in the February half-term, arranged through our partnership with the Windmill Youth Group and Lancashire Outward Bound Trust.

The places we have taken young people include: the Lake District (a Gold expedition that included an ascent of Great Gable), the Howgill fells, the Yorkshire Dales, Malham, West Pennine Moors and the Forest of Bowland.

A Presentation evening for young people who had achieved their Awards this summer was held in August, and the Open Access Group helped run a Blackpool Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Extravaganza event at the Winter Gardens in December.
